To say these poems are about nature, emotion and human experience is to express what poetry itself is about., It is how McCauley deals with these things, how her lines and rythmns, her pauses, her sound, create these things that matters. In these poems, the landscape is the language and the language is the landscape. The wording is exact. The felt land and knowledge, often unwanted, are the revelatory elements. If the light within these poems is akin to Vermeer, then the rythmns seem to emerge from the shadows of a Hopper painting.
