MOTO Books & Arts Festival

The MOTO Books and Arts Festival is an initiative that brings together like-minded book enthusiasts and creatives to appreciate hidden gems in the arts and theatre arena. This convergence of creatives and fans made its debut in Kenya under the theme Firing Up African Literature in April 2022. 

Authors showcase their work

The idea of MOTO Books and Arts Festival is to enable local and international authors, booksellers, illustrators, artists and brands exhibit their work.

It is also an opportunity for them to share the emerging trends in the creative industry and even encourage upcoming creatives to delve deeper into writing. 

The MOTO Books and Arts Festival organizers aim at building sustainable platforms linking the literature ecosystem and a global opportunity that drives a positive cultural and literal impact to society. 

An all-round exhibition

The 2022 debutant edition of the MOTO Books and Arts Festival in Nairobi involved exhibitions, detailed masterclasses, and conversations that revolved around literature and publishing. Moreover, the exhibitors and panelists are drawn from the educational institutions, writing and publishing as well as other creative industry players. 

More importantly, the MOTO Books and Arts Festival also rope in charitable initiatives where a charity books drive is organized to help equip the libraries with books across Kenya. The major idea of this books drive initiative is to enhance the literacy levels in the country and inculcate a reading culture.

The first MOTO Books and Arts Festival in Kenya was brought to you by a partnership involving Halfpriced Books and Village Market Mall.  Halfpriced Books is involved in the distribution of new and pre-owned books at half the original prices. The bookstore is also involved in the donation if books in various libraries across the country with the target of entrenching a reading culture and enhancing literacy levels in the country. 

Moto intentions

With MOTO Books and Arts Festival first annual edition already done in Kenya, the aim is to partner with literature industry leaders to enhance the growing talent and empower more local authors to reach the world stage with their work. More importantly, they aim to elevate literacy levels in marginalized areas and use it as a way to fight poverty. The MOTO Books and Arts Festival vaunts more than 35000 book donations, adopted 79 libraries, and more than 5000 visitors. 


MOTO Books and Arts Festival aims to reach more people in the subsequent editions.
